How Africa tweets. An analysis by Beatrice Karanja




Micro blogging and social networking site Twitter played a role in the revolutions in North Africa and thus, has received a comprehensive documentation over the past year.

Young people in Egypt and Tunisia embraced the immediacy and freedom of the new social networking system to escape the constraints of censorship and the security apparatus and to mobilize and communicate amongst themselves.

Beatrice Karanja, the head of Portland Nairobi, a strategic communications consultancy with a specialism in pan-African campaigns analyzes the findings of the first ever attempt to map comprehensively Twitter traffic across Africa.
